note - The vast bulk of my massive Web presence (over 485 pages) had been hosted by AT&T's WorldNet service since 30 May 1996; they dropped WorldNet effective 31 Mar 2010 and I have been scrambling to transfer everything.  Everything's saved but all the links have to be changed, mostly by hand.  See my sbiii.com Transfer Page for any updates on this tedious process.

THE BERLINERWERKE APOCRYPHA

BW Key

This page sponsored jointly (lots of 'em) by the
National Railway Hysterical Society
and the
National Muddle Railroad Association.

(Lighten up - they're spoofs!)

CSXT AC100CBW and NSC CB100W-10 10,000 horsepower locos!
Also, see the fabled BW DDP45 and other EMD engines EMD may never have dreamed of!]

Insanity doesn't run in my family, it just sort of dawdles along.

Because the Apocrypha and Guest Apocrypha indices exceeded the capacity of the individual pages, they are now presented in full on a separate Berlinerwerke Apocrypha Index (including the Guest Apocrypha Index).

Before I start, I should note that all this (the BW Apocrypha) started with a secret project that is still unfinished and the next major development of the Berlinerwerke was their fabled DDP45:

TRAIN ART APOCRYPHA

Because Will Anderson's Train Art site has so much to interest the Berlinerwerke, and especially the BW's George and Ira Ersatz and their sons, George, Jr., and Ira, Jr., and grandchildren George, III and Georgina (Gina) and Ira, III and Iris, I have decided to place any BW-Apocrypha coverage of Train Art loco drawings on a separate page (or pages).

Will Anderson first came to my attention though his drawings on Michael Eby's Trainiax site (see also my BW Apocrypha Trainiax pages).  I'd had a week to "kill" (the muse had deserted me and I was 3,000 miles from home with a computer that could not access the Net), so I dabbled with a few of Will's drawings from Michael's site.  On my return home, I instantly e-mailed Michael for Will's e-address to get Will's permission to do some major "borrowing" for the BW Apocrypha.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Will Anderson, dra(ugh)tsman extraordinaire, we are able to show here some of the unbelievable adaptations of Train Art loco drawings as developed by the Berlinerwerke.

note-rt.gif - DISCLAIMER - much as I appreciate the honor of receiving permission to use the drawings of artists and dra(f)(augh)tspersons, the BW versions are in no way indicative of the original intent, nor skill, nor meant to impugn the integrity, of the donor.

Per the BW-Eby Trainiax page, we start with the startling announcement that the Berlinerwerke has acquired all rights, tooling, and parts for ALCo and Montréal Locomotive Works, and for Bombardier versions thereof (my, won't Bombardier ever be surprised)!  The Canadi(a)(e)n-American Montréal subsidiary is now named North American Locomotive Works (NALCo).

Even wilder, NALCo has design rights to EMD and GE locos built in Canada!  Most folks at EMD and GE aren't even aware of this!

So, we start off with those first three essays by the BW based on Will's Train Art ALCo DL-109, the smaller DL-099, the smaller yet DL-009, and the miniature DL-007:

Next, we go to the DL-099.5, a 5-axle unit à lá the CPA20/24-5 and FL-9:

This unit is reputed to have been equipped with third rail pickup gear for LIRR service.

The BW had a hand in creating a B unit for the DL-109:

Searching the files at the BW turned up this semi-boxcab predecessor of the DL-103/109-series:

Once on Will's own site, I discovered wonders galore, indeed!  Unfortunately, the first œuvre essayed got corrupted and had to be redrawn.

After the Pennsy's big Baldwin DR6-4-20 passenger shark was demonstrated on the Long Island Rail Road, NALCo won a contract from the LIRR for a five-axle version, the NALCo-BLW DR5-4-20:

This unit was also later equipped with third rail pickup gear.

In restoring many of the Berlinerwerke Apocrypha files, I opened this page and did some browsing on Will Anderson's site.  His neat rendering of the famed Reading A5 0-4-0 switcher reminded me that the BW had once created a steam dummy on that long-serving workhorse.  A steam dummy was a disguised steamer for use in city streets where it would (hopefully) fool horses into thinking it was just another harmless ol' boxcar and not worth shying over.  A quick check of the BW Art Dept. files turned it up:   new (08 Oct 2012)

That's about as far as we've gotten in the BW/Train Art files to date; stay tuned!

As always, you know you can count on the BW to find totally-unbelievable info.

I always wondered at the incredibly tight security at the Berlinerwerke during WWII; now it can be told!  See, for starters, the wild site of Sig Case, Rails to the Stars - Steam in Space, files from the National Aeronautics and Steam Administration and the tie-in to the Berlinerwerke V1 on Apocrypha Page 2.

If you like this sort of nonsense, take a gander at Jim Wells' incredible
and at the AW NUTS Magazine site, "A Publication of the A.W. N.U.T.S. Garden Railway Society".

If you are air-minded (take that as you choose), you must see the Lion Air site!  I'd be Lion if I didn't warn you to keep your tongue in your cheek on this one!

Take your tongue out of your cheek and visit D. Dickens' The Patiala State Monorail Tramway site; whooie (and it's for real)!
