note - The vast bulk of my massive Web presence (over 485 pages) had been hosted by AT&T's WorldNet service since 30 May 1996; they dropped WorldNet effective 31 Mar 2010 and I have been scrambling to transfer everything.  Everything's saved but all the links have to be changed, mostly by hand.  See my sbiii.com Transfer Page for any updates on this tedious process.

Insanity doesn't run in my family, it just sort of dawdles along.

Because the Apocrypha and Guest Apocrypha indices exceeded the capacity of the individual pages, they are now presented in full on a separate Berlinerwerke Apocrypha Index (including the Guest Apocrypha Index).

Before I start, I should note that all this started with a secret project that is still unfinished and the next major development of the Berlinerwerke was their fabled DDP45:

DDP45

For more about her and her family, see my EMD page.

ADDITIONAL APOCRYPHA

Gee, I wonder if they ever caught the wag in the Pennsy's Altoona Works paint shop who perpetrated this non-standard decoration on the Standard RR of the World's BP-20 (Baldwin DR6-4-20) passenger Shark 5773:

The misunderstandings between me and my well-meaning friends and relatives are legion; I wanted an LIRR 5-axle C-liner, NOT a "sea liner":

SeaLiner
(23 Jan 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

The same held true when I asked for an Erie-built and got an Eerie-built:

(23 Jan 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

Things went from bad to worse when I wanted a model of the 1954 Baldwin-built 4,500HP N&W steam turbine-electric, the Jawn Henry or Big John:

BigJohn
(23 Jan 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

The same problem pertained when I requested a T-boiler Shay, not a Tea-boiler!:

Anatole Mallet invented the compound articulated locomotive; you can always tell a Mallet from a simple articulated because the front (low-pressure) cylinders are much larger than the rear ones:

Mallet

A Forney was somewhat like half a Meyer in that it only had one engine under the boiler but that engine was a swiveling bogie; what most people don't know is that Ira Ersatz invented a combustion efficiency indicator gauge which was mounted on the backheads of Forneys and tradenamed (by George) the Forneycator:

I thought it would be nice to get an old Baldwin steamer, NOT a Bald Wynn!:

Similarly, this is NOT General Electric!:

GenElectric
(25 Jan 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

Speaking of General Electric, they run the world's largest drop-center flat car, GEX 80003, and I thought I'd like another picture of it carrying a giant transformer for my Schnabel and other giant car pages:

GEXformer
(01 Feb 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

No, NO, NO!  That's NOT the kind of transformer I meant!  Ya know, I doubt those guys on the ropes are gonna have much control over that monster.

General Electric EB10b Electric Loco - Metro North Railroad had three 1,000HP GE E10b 126-ton center-cab electric switchers, road nos. 401-403, used in Grand Central Terminal and known as "Tunnel Rats".  Crews complained that they had trouble seeing couplers and cut levers from the cab in the dim recesses of GCT so the BW got into the act and created a boxcab body, putting the crew right above the end sills:

GE-EB10b
(07 Aug 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

Putting the crew back at the ends of the loco was no problem since the units only operated at crawl speed.  Maximum access to equipment that had been relocated out by the walls was assured by retaining the external doors from the hoods.  An early version of ditch lights greatly improved the crews ability to see in the dark.  For all I know, these units might still be found puttering around in the dark under GCT.

Here's Warren Ricatelli and Richie Einhorn at the NARCOA Speeders meet in upstate NY on 28/29 Apr 2007, exulting at their successful grafting of a 347HP V-8 into their Fairmont speeder:

Fairmont347hpV8
(14 Feb 2008 image by and © 2008 S. Berliner, III - all rights reserved)

They stuck the radiator on the back for better balance.  That thing really FLIES (and you should see the exhaust plume at night)!

RSR DD2 Banker - moved to BW Apoc. page 19 on 18 Mar 08.

RSR ABCDEF Super-Banker - moved to BW Apoc. page 19 on 18 Mar 08.

As always, you know you can count on the BW to find totally-unbelievable info.

More tales follow on the Berlinerwerke Apocrypha Continuation Page 19 et seq.

[See also the HO (1:87.1) Berlinerwerke saga or the Z (1:220) Berlinerwerke-Z saga.]

I always wondered at the incredibly tight security at the Berlinerwerke during WWII; now it can be told!  See, for starters, the wild site of Sig Case, Rails to the Stars - Steam in Space, files from the National Aeronautics and Steam Administration and the tie-in to the Berlinerwerke V1 on Apocrypha Page 2.

If you like this sort of nonsense, take a gander at Jim Wells' incredible Whitby Locomotive Works; Jim's overall Fantasonics "Model Railroad Magic Website" has become too complex for me to navigate.  Unfortunately, the AW NUTS Magazine, site of the A.W. N.U.T.S. Garden Railway Society is no longer available, nor are Lion Air (I'd be Lion if I didn't warn you to keep your tongue in your cheek on this one!) or D. Dickens' The Patiala State Monorail Tramway site (whooie - and it's for real)!
