note - The vast bulk of my massive Web presence (over 485 pages) had been hosted by AT&T's WorldNet service since 30 May 1996; they dropped WorldNet effective 31 Mar 2010 and I have been scrambling to transfer everything.  Everything's saved but all the links have to be changed, mostly by hand.  See my sbiii.com Transfer Page for any updates on this tedious process.

(Lighten up - they're spoofs!)

[See also the HO (1:87.1) Berlinerwerke saga or the Z (1:220) Berlinerwerke-Z saga

Insanity doesn't run in my family, it just sort of dawdles along.

Because the Apocrypha and Guest Apocrypha indices exceeded the capacity of the individual pages, they are now presented in full on a separate Berlinerwerke Apocrypha Index (including the Guest Apocrypha Index).

Because the Apocrypha and Guest Apocrypha indices exceeded the capacity of the individual pages, they are now presented in full on a separate Berlinerwerke Apocrypha Index (including the Guest Apocrypha Index).

Before I start, I should note that all this started with a secret project that is still unfinished and the next major development of the Berlinerwerke was their fabled DDP45:

DDP45

For more about her and her family, see my EMD page.

ADDITIONAL APOCRYPHA

Enough (it says here) of the Miscellaneous Missed Expectations on the preceding pages; let's get back to far more serious Berlinerwerke locos and rolling stock:

The crew that I e-pal around with, primarily inspired originally by Karen Parker, knows exactly how to get me started poring through the files of the BerlinerWerke, as does the Ruhnian State Railways's Bruce Clubb. Now, along cometh one Frank Musick with the bright idea that U. S. Patent # 2503502 of 11 Apr 1950, assigned to the Baldwin Locomotive Works, which seems to cover the C&O's M1 Steam Turbine, might well have become the PRR's V1.  Not so, Frank; the patent and the M1 are a 4-8-4-8-4.  What we actually have here is the BW-BLW-PRR version, the Pennsy's fantastic V3!  Frank correctly surmised that there was indeed such, but he assumed it would have had a T1-style sharknose.  Not so, my new friend; it in fact had the classic BP20 diesel sharknose shell:

[* - "V3" refers to the PRR Class, NOT the engine type!]

Now, THAT's a beauty!  Thanks, Frank; without your input, I'd never have remembered the V3!

Wow!  No sooner did I post this and advise her than Karen Parker found a builder's color photo of the V3, long-distance tender and all, sitting outside the Baldwin works:

Gorgeous; simply gorgeous!  Thanks, Karen (and thanks for resending the original image). rev.gif (22 Dec 2014)

Oh, give me a break!  I no sooner got Karen to kindly dig out the old image and cropped and thumbnailed it (as above) than my original 2009 crop turned up (even though it didn't appear in global searches): new.gif (22 Dec 2014)

Doesn't it figure?

[The "numberboards haven't even been installed yet", eh?  Not so!  Only the right numberboard had not yet been installed; look closely and you'll quickly find that the left numberboard is very much sitting right there in its appropriate location!] added.gif (22 Dec 2014)

Well, Frank Musick was fairly sure there was another Shark-styled Pennsy turbine and Russ Hass wondered about PRR styling for such so I looked around and, sure enough, they were right!  Seems a Centipede rolled, demolishing its cab and engines, and BP20 Shark #5773 slid across a diamond while derailed, wrecking its undercarriage, so the BW prevailed on Altoona to let it take the body shell of the Shark and place it over the steam turbine-electric mechanism fitted to the Centipede chassis (looking very much like the BW-BLW Shark-nosed Centipede), the PRR V4, which retained the 5773's road number:

Flipping the rear turbine end-for-end allowed fitting it to the 4-8+8-4 running gear of the Centipede.  Wonder what ever became of this handsome beast?

As always, you know you can count on the BW to find totally-unbelievable info.

More tales follow on the Berlinerwerke Apocrypha Continuation Page .

[See also the HO (1:87.1) Berlinerwerke saga or the Z (1:220) Berlinerwerke-Z saga.]

I always wondered at the incredibly tight security at the Berlinerwerke during WWII; now it can be told!  See, for starters, the wild site of Sig Case, Rails to the Stars - Steam in Space, files from the National Aeronautics and Steam Administration and the tie-in to the Berlinerwerke V1 on Apocrypha Page 2.

If you like this sort of nonsense, take a gander at Jim Wells' incredible Whitby Locomotive Works; Jim's overall Fantasonics "Model Railroad Magic Website" has become too complex for me to navigate.  Unfortunately, the AW NUTS Magazine, site of the A.W. N.U.T.S. Garden Railway Society is no longer available, nor are Lion Air (I'd be Lion if I didn't warn you to keep your tongue in your cheek on this one!) or D. Dickens' The Patiala State Monorail Tramway site (whooie - and it's for real)!

If you are air-minded (take that as you choose), you must see the Lion Air site!  I'd be Lion if I didn't warn you to keep your tongue in your cheek on this one!

Take your tongue out of your cheek and visit D. Dickens' The Patiala State Monorail Tramway site; whooie (and it's for real)!
