WDW #1023 Penn Central Cylindrical Hopper Cars

Though not a popular Model Railroad throughout the country, the short-lived Penn Central has many devotees in the Eastern USA!  A desperate unification of the Pennsylvania and New York Central Railroads, to remain solvent, it's engines were painted hastily in black and many of the freight cars were painted in an unusual green color.  There are a few engines and several pieces of rolling stock available for the PC in Z Scale.  Will is offering only one two-pack with two different reporting numbers:

The Chessie System was a holding company that owned four American railroads, the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O), the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), the Baltimore and Ohio Chicago Terminal Railroad (B&OCT) and the Western Maryland Railway (WM), from 1972 until 1987, when the B&O and C&O were merged into CSX Transportation.  The B&OCT was owned by the B&O, but was operated as an independent railroad.  In 1980, Chessie System merged with Seaboard Coast Line Industries to form Jacksonville, Florida, based CSX Corporation.  Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the Chessie System was the creation of Cyrus S. Eaton and his protégé Hays T. Watkins, Jr., then president and chief executive officer of the C&O.  A chief source of revenue for the Chessie System was transportation of coal mined in West Virginia.  The signature symbol of the Chessie System was its "Ches-C", a large emblem incorporating the outline of the C&O's famous "Chessie" the kitten logo.  The Ches-C was emblazoned on the front of all Chessie System locomotives, and also served as the "C" in "Chessie System" on the locomotive's flanks, and on other rolling stock.  The Chessie System itself did not own any locomotives or other rolling stock; rather, equipment would be placed on the roster of one of the three component railroads.  While all three companies shared a common paint scheme of yellow, vermillion, and blue, actual ownership of the equipment was denoted by the reporting marks: C&O, B&O, or WM.

Here's the December 2007 offering from Full Throttle.  It's a 33' open offset-side two-bay hopper car marked for the Chessie System Railroad (B&O).  The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Mfg., painted in black with a slight sheen inside and out, lettered in yellow, and featuring custom Hay Bros. Garage coal loads.  They sport MT Bettendorf trucks with knuckle couplers and the printing is immaculate, tiny and clean.  The "Kitten in the Mitten" Chessie logo is there!  These will be sold to FT Friends in two-packs (two different road numbers) or four-packs (four different road numbers); that is: 1 x two-pks. or 2 x two-pks.  You may order direct in any quantity you wish!  Packed in crystal-clear plastic cases, foam cradles, and colorful liners, there are two two-pack sets per four-pack, each clearly marked on the back as to the #1 or #2 set of the issue.

Some time ago, Will's dear Z Friend David Miller, who loves to walk the railyards, sent him a bunch of photos he had taken of a very nifty Pillsbury Cylindrical Hopper.  Perfect, Will just had to produce this car using his Cylindrical Hopper model.  What's more American for the holidays?

Here is a new Cylindrical Hopper model, stock WDW #1021 ... Pillsbury ... representing a 51' steel car, body in faded blue paint, repainted black roofwalk, and restenciled reporting data.  Will has since seen photos of these old Pillsbury cars from all across the USA, showing variations of the data boxes, black or blue repainted roofwalks, and in a myriad of rusty conditions from "not so bad," to "rust covered!"  He'll leave further weathering up to the hobbyists!

#1021 Pillsbury Cylindrical Hoppers


Here is a wonderful addition to your Z Scale twin-hopper stock.  It is the Union Pacific open rib-side 2-bay hopper.  This has been on request since Uncle Will started the rib twin-bay program!  Not surprising, as the UP is one of the most popular and modeled railroads in our hobby!  Will's taken his 33' model and painted it in a UP brown which was approved for use by Bowser Mfg. by the UP Historical Society.  The lettering is printed in UP yellow and the result makes a very nifty and much needed addition to the rosters of Will's UP fans!  This October 2007 release should be very much in demand:

#2009 Union Pacific 33' Two-Bay Rib-Side Hopper Car

The Union Pacific Railroad (AAR reporting marks UP), headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, is the largest railroad network in the United States.  UP's route map covers most of the central and western United States west of Chicago and New Orleans.  It has achieved this size thanks to purchasing a large number of other railroads, notably the Missouri Pacific, Chicago & North Western, Western Pacific, Missouri-Kansas-Texas, and the Rio Grande (including the Southern Pacific).

This October 2007 offering from Full Throttle is a 33' two-bay rib-side hopper car marked for the Union Pacific Railroad.  The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Mfg., painted to a slight sheen with UP brown inside and out, and there are custom Hay Bros. Garage coal loads in them.  They sport MT Bettendorf trucks with knuckle couplers and the printing in yellow is immaculate, tiny, and clean.  There are three 2-pack sets per 6-pack, each clearly marked on the back as to the #1, #2, or #3 set of the release.  A different color gray cardstock liner also defines the three different sets of the 6-pack.

The Union Pacific is very popular, modeled by many hobbyists throughout the USA and Europe, and as seen by the blurb above, is today the result of many Railroad mergers, by favorite Lines in our hobby.

The Green Bay and Western Railroad (AAR reporting marks GBW) was a paper-carrying line and bridge route operating between the Mississippi River at Winona, Minnesota, and Lake Michigan at Kewaunee, Wisconsin, via Green Bay.  It was chartered in 1866 as the Green Bay & Lake Pepin to provide an outlet for the region's timber and agriculture and served the transportation and freight haulage needs of northern Wisconsin for almost 100 years before it was absorbed into the Wisconsin Central in 1993.  For much of its operating history, the railroad was also known as the Green Bay Route.

The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Mfg., one painted in GB&W red, and the other in GB&W yellow!  There are custom Hay Bros. Garage coal loads in them.  They sport MT Bettendorf trucks with knuckle couplers and the printing is immaculate, tiny, and clean.  The colorful Green Bay Route logo is all there!  These are sold in 8-pks. (eight different road numbers, four on the red cars and four of the yellow cars); that is: 4 X 2-packs.  There are four 2-pack sets per 8-pack, each clearly marked on the back as to the #1, #2, #3, or #4 set of the issue.  There will be one red and one yellow car in each 2-pack.

The GBW is a nifty Railroad to our Midwestern modelers, but Will only created 40 full sets (8-packs); however, he expects this set to be in demand as a colorful collectible Z Scale adjunct, so he suggests you not wait.  The GB&W had a line of reddish-orange 2-bay offset-side hoppers here represented in a slightly faded (weathered) version.  The railroad took some 20 cars from the line and painted them in yellow, here represented by a slightly dirty version.  The combination of colors is also apropos for the Fall, and the set should prove to be a wonderful Z Scale collectible!

#2012 WM 33' Two-Bay Rib-Side Hopper

The Western Maryland Railway (AAR reporting marks WM) was an American Class I railroad which operated in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.  It was built west from Baltimore in 1852 and completed to Hagerstown, Maryland in 1872, finally becoming the Western Maryland Railway Company.  The coal and lumber trades made important freight for the WM and it's fast freight service ran from West Virginia through to Pennsylvania.  In 1964, the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O) and the Baltimore & Ohio Rail Road (B&O) jointly filed for permission to acquire control of the Western Maryland Railway with the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC).  In 1973, as part of the Chessie System, the Western Maryland ownership went to C&O and it was operated by the B&O.  In 1987, it was merged into the C&O which itself became part of CSX Transportation.

The Canadian National Railway (CN; AAR reporting marks CN, CNA, CNIS) is a Canadian Class I railway operated by the Canadian National Railway Company headquartered in Montréal, Québec.  CN is the largest railway in Canada, in terms of both revenue and the physical size of its rail network and is currently Canada's only transcontinental railway company, spanning Canada from the Atlantic coast in Nova Scotia to the Pacific coast in British Columbia.^nbsp; It also has extensive trackage in the central United States along the Mississippi River valley from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.  The Canadian National Railways (CNR) was created between 1918 and 1923, comprising several railways that had become bankrupt and fallen into federal government hands, along with some railways already owned by the government.  In 1995, the federal government privatized CN.  Over the next decade, the company expanded significantly in the United States, purchasing the Illinois Central Railroad and the Wisconsin Central Railway, among others.  Now primarily a freight railway, CN also operated passenger services until 1978, when they were assumed by VIA Rail.

The railway was referred to as the Canadian National Railways (CNR) between 1918 and 1960 and as Canadian National/Canadien National (CN) from 1960 to present.

Here's Will's second August 2007 release, a new 33' Rib-Side Two-Bay Hopper Car, WDW #2010.  The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) was one of the oldest railroads in the United States, with an original line from the port of Baltimore, Maryland, west to the Ohio River at Wheeling and Parkersburg, West Virginia.  It is now part of the CSX network, and includes the oldest operational railroad bridge in the world {the Thomas Viaduct}.  The B&O also included the Leiper Railroad, the first permanent railroad in the U.S.  In later years, B&O advertising carried the motto: "Linking 13 Great States with the Nation."

NEW CAR BODY STYLE FROM FULL THROTTLE
33' OPEN OFFSET-SIDE TWO-BAY HOPPER

During the first half of the 20th Century, the most common carrier for the transport of coal via rail lines was, in fact, the pervasive little 50-55 ton, twin-bay hopper.&NBSP; Ever inventive engineers designed a different style of this essential hauler which became enormously popular with many Railroads by the 1930's and 40's.&NBSP; This "Offset-Side" hopper car had a few advantages over the "Rib-Side" type.  The crease in the upper sides led to more structural strength without using heavier materials, and there was a greater rated capacity with the side panels riveted to the outside of the ribbing, instead of being on the inside.  The efficiency was a boon to the coal merchants!  The concept proved successful, and was used to build ever larger hopper cars until after WW II, when "rivet pull-through" rendered it impractical for modern rotary dumping.  Today, the prototype is less frequently utilized but "Offset-Side" hoppers remain an important part of railroad history.  Full Throttle presents a universal model of these unique hoppers, complete with custom coal loads by "Hay Bros. Garage."

Bowser-Stewart has done a marvelous job in translating this nifty style car into Z Scale.  Will already has several liveries being prepared at his workshop; the first to be released will be #3003 L&NE and #3004 ATSF - one from Northeastern USA and one from the West.

The different style body will make for a more varied prototypical consist for the Z Scale modeler, and a neat new collectible Z Scale cars.  As with the "Rib-Side" hoppers, Hay Bros. Garage will be supplying the coal loads.  There are 18 different profiles that, when reversed, can make 36 different profiles for your consists, again contributing to a more varied and realistic train.

The Lehigh and New England Railroad (AAR reporting marks LNE) was a connection from northeastern Pennsylvania (Tamaqua, Slatington, Allentown) towards the Poughkeepsie Bridge across the Hudson River (Campbell Hall, NY).  Originally planned as a continuous line east to Boston, plans were later cut back to a section west of the river.  Due to the decline in mining in Pennsylvania, the LNE was shut down in 1961, and parts in Pennsylvania became part of the Central Railroad of New Jersey (later part of Conrail).

The August 2007 offering from Full Throttle is a 33' open offset-side two-bay hopper car marked for the Lehigh and New England Railroad.  The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Mfg., painted black inside and out with a slight sheen, and there are custom Hay Bros. #3004 Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway 33' Offset-Side Two-Bay Hopper Car

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (AAR reporting marks ATSF), often abbreviated as "Santa Fe", was one of the largest railroads in the United States.  The company was first chartered in February, 1859.  Although the railway was named in part for the capital of New Mexico, its main line never reached there as the terrain made it too difficult to lay the necessary tracks (Santa Fe was ultimately served by a branch line from Lamy, New Mexico).  The Santa Fe's first tracks reached the Kansas/Colorado state line in 1873, and connected to Pueblo, Colorado in 1876.  In order to help fuel the railroad's profitability, the Santa Fe set up real estate offices and sold farm land from the land grants that the railroad was awarded by Congress; these new farms would create a demand for transportation (both freight and passenger service) that was, quite conveniently, offered by the Santa Fe.  Ever the innovator, Santa Fe was one of the pioneers in intermodal freight service, an enterprise that (at one time or another) included a tugboat fleet and an airline, the short-lived Santa Fe Skyway.  A bus line allowed the company to extend passenger transportation service to areas not accessible by rail, and ferry boats on San Francisco Bay allowed travellers to complete their westward journeys all the way to the Pacific Ocean.  The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway officially ceased operations on December 31, 1996 when it merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.

The BNSF Railway (AAR reporting marks BNSF), headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the four remaining transcontinental railroads and one of the largest railroad networks in North America (only one competitor, the Union Pacific Railroad, is larger in size).  With globalization, the transcontinental railroads are a key component in the containerization of the Pacific Rim, with the BNSF Railway moving more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world.  It was formed December 31, 1996 as the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway when the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway was merged into the Burlington Northern Railroad.  On January 24, 2005, the railroad's name was officially changed to BNSF Railway.

The new car, stock #1019 ... BNSF ... represents a steel car painted dark mineral with white printing.  BNSF inherited a slew of cylindrical hoppers from the BN Railroad which used them to transport tons of grain through our central and western states.

CSX Transportation was formed on July 1, 1986 as a renaming of the Seaboard System Railroad and Chessie System, Inc. into one entity.  On June 23, 1997, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern filed a joint application with the Surface Transportation Board for authority to purchase, divide, and operate the assets of the 11,000-mile Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail), which had been created in 1976 by bringing together several ailing Northeastern railway systems into a government-owned corporation.  On June 6, 1998, the STB approved the CSX-Norfolk Southern application and set August 22, 1998, as the effective date of its decision.  CSX acquired 42% of Conrail's assets (Norfolk Southern got the remaining 58%).  As a result of the transaction, CSX's rail operations, through its new subsidiary New York Central Lines, grew to include some 3,800 miles of the Conrail system (predominantly the former New York Central Railroad).  CSX began operating its trains on its portion of the Conrail network on June 1, 1999.

For April 2007, Will offers this mineral/oxide red version of the Pennsy two-bay 33' outside-rib hopper car, WDW #2008.  The Pennsylvania Railroad (AAR reporting marks PRR) was an American railroad that was founded in 1846 and merged in 1968 into Penn Central Transportation.  Commonly referred to as the Pennsy, the company was headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The company's symbol was a keystone (Pennsylvania's symbol) with the letters PRR intertwined inside it.  The PRR was the largest railroad by traffic and revenue in the US throughout its 20th century existence and for a long while was the largest publicly traded corporation in the world.  The corporation still holds the record for the longest continual dividend history; it doled out annual payments to shareholders for more than 100 years in a row.  For a long time the PRR called itself the Standard Railroad of the World, meaning that it was perceived as the standard to which all other railroads aspired, the "gold standard".  For a long time that was literally true; the railroad had an impressive lists of firsts, greatests, biggests, and longests.  The PRR was the first railroad to rid itself of wooden-bodied passenger cars in favor of the much safer steel-bodied cars*.  It led the way in many safety and efficiency improvements over the years.  This advantage lessened as the years progressed, and the PRR eventually abandoned the use of the phrase.

February 2007's offering is a combo pack of two separate stock numbers, 2004B and 2007R, both Southern Railway 33' two-bay hopper cars, one red and the other black; Z folks can buy them as a 12-pk. if they want a long drag.  There has been a shortage of Z Scale open hopper cars for the Southern region of the USA, so Will is proud to offer these nifty prototypical coalers, so common throughout the entire area that makes up our Southern States!  Several predecessors, dating back to the 1820's, led finally to the Southern Railway by 1894.  In the 1980's it merged with Norfolk and Western R.R. to become Norfolk Southern.  A venerable Rail Line oft wearing a green color scheme on both steam and diesel engine alike, the SR ran freight and passenger trains from Richmond, Virginia, to Greenville, Mississippi, and all points between, living up to it's motto, "We Serve the South!"

The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad generally referred to as the Rio Grande, became the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad in 1920, and is today absorbed into a larger system, the Union Pacific.  The D&RGW served mainly as transcontinental bridge line between Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah, and was a major origin of coal and mineral traffic with a motto of "Through the Rockies, not around them".  The Rio Grande was the epitome of mountain railroading, operating the highest mainline rail line in the Untied States of over 10,240 feet at Tennessee Pass in Colorado and the famed routes through the Moffat Tunnel and the Royal Gorge.  At its height around 1890, the D&RG had the largest operating narrow gauge railroad network in North America.  Known for its independence, the D&RGW operated the last private long haul passenger train in the United States, the Rio Grande Zephyr.

For over a century, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad was an industrial giant, serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.  With rail lines reaching out in all directions, it fueled the industrial revolution and became the largest corporation in the world by the 1870's.  During the latter part of the century, J.P. Morgan pulled out his financial aid, which curtailed the P&R's expansion into New England, Canada, and the US West, and, with the government's efforts to stop monopolies, by 1924 the P&R finally became the independent Reading Railroad, a huge regional anthracite coal carrier.  After World War II, as America began to turn away from coal as its major fuel, the Reading's fate began to turn as well.  Dragged down by the failure of surrounding lines on which it depended for traffic to offset the loss of the coal business, the Reading entered bankruptcy in 1971.  Its operations were taken over as part of the federally financed CONRAIL, on April 1, 1976.

April 2007 - mineral/oxide red version of the Pennsy two-bay 33' outside-rib hopper car, WDW #2008. 

The Pennsylvania Railroad (AAR reporting marks PRR) was an American railroad that was founded in 1846 and merged in 1968 into Penn Central Transportation.  Commonly referred to as the Pennsy, the company was headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The company's symbol was a keystone (Pennsylvania's symbol) with the letters PRR intertwined inside it.  The PRR was the largest railroad by traffic and revenue in the US throughout its 20th century existence and for a long while was the largest publicly traded corporation in the world.  The corporation still holds the record for the longest continual dividend history; it doled out annual payments to shareholders for more than 100 years in a row.  For a long time the PRR called itself the Standard Railroad of the World, meaning that it was perceived as the standard to which all other railroads aspired, the "gold standard".  For a long time that was literally true; the railroad had an impressive lists of firsts, greatests, biggests, and longests.  The PRR was the first railroad to rid itself of wooden-bodied passenger cars in favor of the much safer steel-bodied cars*.  It led the way in many safety and efficiency improvements over the years.  This advantage lessened as the years progressed, and the PRR eventually abandoned the use of the phrase.

The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Manufacturing, painted mineral/oxide red inside and out with a slight sheen, and there are custom Hay Bros. Garage loads in them.  They sport MT Bettendorf trucks with knuckle couplers and the printing is immaculate, tiny, and clean.  The Circle Keystone logo is all there!  These will be sold to the dealers in 6-packs (six different road #sl i.e.: 3 X 2-packs).  Dealers may divide these 6-packs as they see fit, selling them as a 2-pk., 4-pk. or in the original 6-pk. release form.  There are three 2-pack sets per 6-pack, each clearly marked on the back as to the #1, #2, or #3 set of the release; a different color gray cardstock liner also defines the three different sets of the 6-pack.:

February 2007's offering is a combo pack of two separate stock numbers, 2004B and 2007R, both Southern Railway 33' two-bay hopper cars, one red and the other black; Z folks can buy them as a 12-pk. if they want a long drag.  There has been a shortage of Z Scale open hopper cars for the Southern region of the USA, so Will is proud to offer these nifty prototypical coalers, so common throughout the entire area that makes up our Southern States!  Several predecessors, dating back to the 1820's, led finally to the Southern Railway by 1894.  In the 1980's it merged with Norfolk and Western R.R. to become Norfolk Southern.  A venerable Rail Line oft wearing a green color scheme on both steam and diesel engine alike, the SR ran freight and passenger trains from Richmond, Virginia, to Greenville, Mississippi, and all points between, living up to it's motto, "We Serve the South!"

This offering from Full Throttle is six pair of 33' two-bay hopper cars lettered for the Southern Railway.  The models were manufactured with great details by Bowser Mfg., painted black or mineral red inside and out with a slight sheen, and there are custom Hay Bros. The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad generally referred to as the Rio Grande, became the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad in 1920, and is today absorbed into a larger system, the Union Pacific.  The D&RGW served mainly as transcontinental bridge line between Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah, and was a major origin of coal and mineral traffic with a motto of "Through the Rockies, not around them".  The Rio Grande was the epitome of mountain railroading, operating the highest mainline rail line in the Untied States of over 10,240 feet at Tennessee Pass in Colorado and the famed routes through the Moffat Tunnel and the Royal Gorge.  At its height around 1890, the D&RG had the largest operating narrow gauge railroad network in North America.  Known for its independence, the D&RGW operated the last private long haul passenger train in the United States, the Rio Grande Zephyr.

And here's your Xmas/Chanukah present!  The Chicago and Eastern Illinois (AAR reporting mark CEI) was a Class I railroad that linked Chicago to southern Illinois, St. Louis, and Evansville, IN.  Founded in 1877, it grew aggressively and stayed relatively strong throughout the Great Depression and two World Wars before being purchased by both the Missouri Pacific Railroad (MP or MoPac) and the Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N).  MoPac absorbed the C&EI corporate entity in 1976.

For Nov 06, Uncle Will presents new rolling stock, a new body style, the Full Throttle 33' two-bay hopper car!  Will worked very hard to bring this about and Bill Hay of Hay Bros. Some of the most common cars to ride American railroad tracks during the 20th century, the small, steel paneled, rib-side, two-bay hoppers, were instrumental to the growth of our nation.  During the Industrial Age of the USA, coal was "King" and our appetite for "black diamonds" was sated by these pert little dumpsters.  An improvement over "drop-bottom" gondolas, the true self-disposing, gravity-release hopper car became reality during the early 1900's, and fed the fires of our burgeoning economy until well after mid-century.  While no longer used for large commercial hauling, these mighty mites are all pervasive, found on every short-line, anywhere there are rails, still lugging coal, gravel, ore, sand, glass, and a variety of bulk materials.  An invaluable "workhorse" even for our contemporary railroads.  For your Z Scale enjoyment, "Full Throttle" presents a universal model of these small omnipresent twin-bay hoppers, complete with custom coal loads by "Hay Bros. Potash (or carbonate of potash) is an impure form of potassium carbonate (K2CO3) mixed with other potassium salts; potash has been used since antiquity in the manufacture of glass and soap and as a fertilizer.  The name comes from the English words pot and ash, referring to its discovery in the water-soluble fraction of wood ash.  PotashCorp is the world's largest fertilizer enterprise, by capacity, producing the three primary plant nutrients (potash, phosphate, and nitrogen).  They are the world’s largest potash company, with 22 percent of the world’s overall capacity and 75 percent of the world’s unused capacity.  They complement this strength with operations that make them the world’s third-largest phosphate producer and fourth-largest nitrogen producer.  Their products are used by fertilizer, feed, and industrial customers on six continents and they have corporate offices in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Northbrook, Illinois.  They also have production facilities in five countries. In total, they employ approximately 5,000 people. PotashCorp is a publicly traded Canadian corporation with all shares listed and traded on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges (symbol POT).

"After WWII, US Railroads were increasingly called upon to haul new and unique 'modern' products over long distances.  In response, American Car and Foundry (ACF) designed a tank-type covered hopper car.  The cylindrical shape allowed a better weight/volume ratio than a 'rectangular' car, plus the elimination of interior ledges, combined with hatches and outlets placed along a center-line, led to ACF's trademark 'Center Flow' hoppers!  Through the 1960's the 'cylindricals' became omnipresent on our Nation’s RR tracks, with many styles of hatches and outlets devised according to needs.  Because the cars were compartmented, various loads could be carried in a single unit and some construction with aluminum reduced weight further.  Here was a 'Freight Car for the Future', ready to transport sugar, cement, sand, salt, fertilizers, many types of grains, coke, starch, feeds, chemicals and plastics!"

Above, you will find the first ten offerings!  The first five, on the left side, are on their way right now to Full Throttle, where they will be packaged and marketed!  They will be offered as 2-pks., but when the first round of 2-pks. is sold out, there is another 2-pk. ready to take their place, with an additional two different reporting numbers.  So, if you want a succession of a certain Road or Leaser, you may accumulate them.  If not, you needn't buy a slew of them.  In fact, certain of these will be packaged together in adjunct 2-pks.  As an example, there will be a 2-pk. available from Full Throttle, with the ARCO and Shell cars together.  Two oil/plastic Companies, and for those Z Folk wanting just one car of a colorful pair, this is the way to go!  They will have yet another different reporting number than the cars appearing in the regular 2-pks.  The idea being to keep you all happy!  Some people will want a string of a certain car with many reporting numbers, and in the first year, you will be able to accumulate 5 numbers, if you so wish.  But some people will just want one car and collect all different colorful liveries.  This will also be possible, without having to break up sets of cars!

Will has done all that is within his power to keep the costs down, which seems impossible with everyone raising their prices from the plastic, to foam, to couplers, paint, paper, ink, boxes, and production fees!  Whew!  Still, he's worked hard to make a railcar that is very inexpensive despite a multi-piece mold having to be made for their injection.  Details on price and availability will be coming to you, shortly!  Give Will a little time for the packaging!  And don't think that these ten Rail Lines are the end of it... NO, just the beginning!  Sometime after Tax Time, there will be yet another ten liveries to chose from.  Will will send the drawings or they will be shown in Ztrack Magazine, as they come on tap.  He is trying to represent all areas of the USA in these first 20 offerings, and Canada, and the private sector as well!  So, be patient, as likely your favorite Road will eventually appear!  And, at the very least, there will be regional representatives!

WOW!  The response to the cylindricals has been so overwhelming, that the first two road numbers for UP, BN, and Chessie System are SOLD OUT!, and as promised, there are two different numbers to take their place.  Instead of Will sending out endless blurbs, he has decided to approach the situation thusly:  he will be listing these cylindricals on eBay and in his ZeBay Store.  You can go into the Z Scale "Other Manufacturers" section of eBay's Hobbies and Collectibles area, to view these listings.  When you spot one of Will's auctions, there will be links in the listing to his ZeBay Store.

Will sends a great big "Thank You" for all the support customers have shown for this major new project from "Full Throttle!"  Response to the first five liveries of cylindrical hoppers has been nothing short of railfantastic!  He has been overwhelmed, literally, and very encouraged!  To bring you up to date; the UP, BN, and Chessie System models are all but sold out.  This presents a problem as it had always been Will's intention to have every model released to be in stock and on hand so that, at any time, anyone could get these nifty cars in the livery that they wished!  But never fear!  Will has asked the folks at Bowser to drop everything and do a re-release of those three roads.  There will be slight differences and two of the cars will have a different WDW (FT)* stock number.  This was always intended, just not so immediately!  In the case of the Chessie System car, the new release will be for the C&O instead of the B&O and have appropriate different reporting numbers.  As for the UP, he is having Bowser make the aluminum model.  Thus, it will be silver instead of gray, and have a black catwalk on top.  Again, the appropriate numbers will be used.  The BN model will be the same, except for the color.  There is an aluminum model to be created, but Will wants to hold up on that one, and instead is using a very slightly different green color in the next run of BNs.  This will signify a different paint lot, or weathering or bleaching, or road grime, if you will!  He has experimented with this concept on FR cars and the effect is really neat, giving prototypical variation to consists without the hobbyists having to "weather" their cars.  This is "factory weathering", if you catch the drift!  The reporting numbers will be from the same series as the first run, but different, of course.   new.gif (06 Feb 06)

Common on American tracks, yet today, over 130,000 of the 90/100 ton, 45 foot, three-bay hoppers were built since their introduction in the 1960's.  Extremely popular haulers, many rail lines and rail car manufacturers produced them with Bethlehem Steel and ACF supplying prefabricated kits to myriad railroads.

Will:  I sure hope you will enjoy this second regional offering of triple-hoppers from Uncle Will's "Full Throttle!"  I certainly enjoyed putting it together!  There are many perqs in this production.  One is the custom paint jobs of the cars.  Bowser has painted the cars both inside and out!  The printing is crisp and colorful!  Bill Hay of Hay Bros. These loads are easily removable and exchangeable.  I am, naturally, appealing to the collectors among you, but these hoppers are from the original PennZee molds and are weighted and have the great detail and tracking to which you have grown accustomed.  The cars feature MT knuckle couplers for realism, quality and performance.  So, don't be afraid to run them!  As for those concerned about reporting numbers, this second regional set is released with the L&N hauling gravel and wearing #193200, an alternate number than the L&N appearing in the first regional hopper set, "Appalachian Drags."  The Seaboard hauling woodchips wears #341453.  The Southern hauling sand wears #360453 and the N&W hauling coal wears either #131243 or #131245.  There is method in the madness and in several weeks* there will be adjuncts offered at my ZeBay Store for the N&Ws, Seaboards and Southern 3-bays, with two different numbers appearing in each two-pack.  There were only 40 such supplements made for each of these three roads but that should be enough for those that would like more than one of these hoppers for their rosters.

Will had problems obtaining proper boxes; he found his own boxes.  The boxes can hold two cars and they are crystal clear and stackable!  Inside, the cars are cradled in foam liners and there is model information printed on the liner sleeve.

Adjunct sets for the "Southern Drags" 4-packs were also produced.  These were "extra" cars for the Seaboard System, Southern Railway, and Norfolk Southern, in case you would like to expand your consists.  They are all two-packs and the SBDs and SRs have two different reporting numbers from those that appear in the "Southern Drags" Set.  The NS Set carries one repeat number across from the cars in the "Southern Drags" Set.  Here's what they look like: new.gif (18 Sep 2005)

The Seaboards carry a load of woodchips; The Southerns carry a coal load, and the Norfolk Southerns carry a load of gravel.

The 90/100 ton, 45 foot, three-bay hoppers noted above are also used extensively by the Peabody Coal Company, founded in Chicago during the 1880's and now the largest such industry in the world!  Fueling more than 10% of all electricity in the USA and 3% of the world's, Peabody hopper cars are seen everywhere, providing services to more than 300 generating and industrial locations in 35 States and 16 Countries!  Uncle Will has issued a run of them (with Bowser's inestimable help) in a quad pack of road numbers 9631, 9632, 9637, and 9639, with Micro-Trains couplers and Hays Bros.
