note - The vast bulk of my massive Web presence (over 485 pages) had been hosted by AT&T's WorldNet service since 30 May 1996; they dropped WorldNet effective 31 Mar 2010 and I have been scrambling to transfer everything.  Everything's saved but all the links have to be changed, mostly by hand.  See my sbiii.com Transfer Page for any updates on this tedious process.

[Please note that these pages could also have been accessed as URL http://berliner-ultrasonics.home.att.net/lim*.html,
a
"vanity" URL (q.v.) that did not require the tilde (~), as was true of ALL of my old pages.}

This is yet another new (28 Dec 2003) page to cover additional information and photographs of this interesting old highway; see also my Automotive, Chrysler, Dudgeon (really!), Mercedes, and SS and JAGUAR car pages and other related pages.

A Motor Parkway Panel had been convened to keep the LIMP alive in situ, in minds, and in museums; it has been disbanded and all activities thereof have been assumed by the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society.

There is also a lot of automotive material on my ORDNANCE and HISTORY pages.

Also, if you like automotive history, see the links on the Automotive page.

LONG ISLAND MOTOR PARKWAY - Western Nassau County

Additional NEW HYDE PARK Documentation (28 Dec 2003), continuing coverage of the peregrinations of the Long Island Motor Parkway across the Long Island landscape, returning to the New Hyde Park area of western Nassau County.

On 28 Dec 2003, Scott Trepeta, who lives in New Hyde Park not far from Shelter Rock Road, and whose back yard borders on the LIPA power lines which were placed on the old LIMP RoW (bordering the southern part of the Links) sent these photos of the triangular boundary posts.  They can only be seen in the Fall when all the brush has died (28 Dec 2003)

Searingtown Posts [moved here from (now empty) Western Nassau County Continuation Page 1 on 07 May 2017).]

Motor Parkway Panel Associate Howard Kroplick (now founder and head of the successor Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society) sent me these 2003 shots of surviving Motor Parkway posts in Searingtown; the first is on Old Searingtown Road, just SE of the NW corner of Old Searingtown and Searingtown Roads, two houses in from the coner and three houses E of Old Homestead, nearly buried by raised landscaping (28 Dec 2003)   rev (07 May 2017):

The second is of a discarded post lying on the ground behind the VFW Post on the NE corner of the LIMP RoW and Searingtown Road.

[I should note (no, I shouldn't) that Howard posted the photos to me and I've now posted them here, so that should make the first an Old Searingtown Road post post post and the second a VFW Post post post post!] :)

I'd never noticed these before and saw the first post in the evening of 21 Oct 2004 and went back on 23 Oct 2004 to document it a bit more; note that it is rectangular, not triangular, although the angle of Howard's shot make it look so (23 Oct 2004):

I wonder if the raised mound is part of the old LIMP bridge berm.  The first shot is looking ENE toward the traffic light and street signs at the intersection of both roads (and San Juan Avenue on the far side).  You can readily see why it's not all that easy to spot the post, which looks more broken off than buried to me.  However, there is a rusty metal rod or pipe through the hole and that makes me wonder if the pipe is a later addition or part of a bridge railing.  The second photo is looking NE and the third NW, while the last is looking NNW.  There was a big party at the VFW hall so I did not cross over there.
